Major Scandinavian media hub invites GlobalM

In a strategic move, Geneva based GlobalM will join the Bergen Media City Cluster in Norway, granting the startup access to influential Scandinavian and global players in the media industry.

Co-founded by Lance Newhart and Paul Calleja and supported by Fongit, GlobalM aims to revolutionize news broadcasting and take mobile journalism to the next level.

In a world where news and sports coverage is changing at a fast pace, GlobalM is gathering momentum.

The Geneva startup has just received an invitation to join the Bergen Media City Cluster in Norway.

These are important news for the startup that will get to collaborate with some major names in the Scandinavian and World Media Industry players and innovators.

As a member of the Norwegian Media Cluster, GlobalM will have access to a wide range of services and cluster projects.

Lance Newhart, GlobalM CEO and co-founder explains:

"We're definitely interested in learning more about the 5G Consortium, as we have already started testing 5G with other media companies, with good results. And, excited to be part of the Journalism Lab (JoLab). We also want to explore opportunities within the Norwegian Cognitive Center, an initiative we find especially interesting as we are currently working on our editorial verification workflow and how we will implement artificial intelligence for our team of journalists."

Anne Jacobsen, CEO of Media City Bergen, is also pleased to have GlobalM join the Cluster as an international associate.

"The Norwegian Media Cluster's aim is to empower stories, and GlobalM certainly has the right tools to enable reporters and journalists to do exactly that. Our members represent the whole value chain of the media industry, and we believe that the Media Cluster and GlobalM are a great match. We're glad to have GlobalM on board, and we are looking forward to work with Lance and his team" says Jacobsen.

Successful test in the Swiss Alps

On August 8th, GlobalM was in Verbier for Le Tour Des Stations, one of the longest bike races in the world with the Ultrafondo 240 km and 8200 mD+ of climbing the mountaintops in the canton of Valais.

Working with MSO Media and Actua, GlobalM provided successfully 12 hours of race transmissions using only 4G mobile internet and the startup's advanced SRT network technology.

Cofounded in Geneva in 2019 by Lance Newhart and Paul Calleja, two media professionals with worldwide experience, GlobalM has recently joined Fongit.

The Swiss ICT & Media startup specializes in advanced streaming technologies for sports, news, business, culture and entertainment.

GlobalM aims to revolutionize news and sports by enabling anyone with a smartphone to be a reporter, and to earn money from their content, embracing mobile technology and IP content distribution using SRT (Secure Reliable Transport).

SRT is an open source video transport protocol and technology stack that optimizes streaming performance across unpredictable networks with secure streams and easy firewall traversal, bringing the best quality live video over problematic networks.

Busy weeks on the way

The next weeks promise to be very active for GlobalM as the team is nearing the launch of its v1 iOS and Android apps, as well as platform and media marketplace. Furthermore, the Geneva startup has been selected by Innosuisse to pitch for SLUSH 2020 in November and will be featured on Haivision webinar on September 16th and an SRT Alliance webinar in the next couple of weeks.
