SRT Mobile App

The GlobalM mobile app is purpose built to revolutionise mobile journalism, often referred to as mojo, by equipping journalists with an advanced, intuitive, and professional grade tool for live broadcasting and real time content creation. Designed with simplicity and reliability in mind, the app eliminates traditional barriers associated with live reporting technology, making it accessible and practical for journalists in the field. Its user centric approach ensures that reporters can focus on capturing and sharing impactful stories without being bogged down by complex technical setups or equipment.

One of the standout features of the GlobalM mobile app is its unrestricted deployment model. Unlike many professional tools that require per-user or per-device licenses, the GlobalM app does not impose any licensing costs based on the number of installations. This makes it possible for news channels and agencies to roll out the app across its entire network of journalists, both staff reporters and freelancers, without incurring additional expenses. Whether the newsroom needs to equip a handful of correspondents covering a local event or hundreds of journalists reporting on breaking news across the globe, the app’s licensing model ensures that coverage is never constrained by budgetary or logistical limitations.

This unrestricted approach offers unparalleled flexibility in scaling its operations. In today’s fast-paced news environment, where timely and comprehensive coverage can define a newsroom’s success, having a tool that can be deployed to any number of journalists at no extra cost is a game changer. The app ensures that every reporter in the network, no matter their location or assignment, has access to the same cutting-edge capabilities, fostering consistency and quality in news production.

By offering a combination of scalability, accessibility, and high-end functionality, the GlobalM mobile app positions reporters to respond swiftly and effectively to the demands of modern journalism. It ensures that no story goes uncovered due to technological constraints, empowering the newsroom to adapt to an ever-evolving media landscape with confidence and efficiency

For the app to function, the phone’s location services must be enabled, providing an essential layer of verification for newsroom operations. The app automatically shares the journalist’s real-time location with the newsroom through the GlobalM orchestrator, allowing editors to confirm that content is being captured from the correct location. This feature is critical in verifying the authenticity of reports, particularly in conflict zones or during events where false information or misrepresented locations might be an issue. By enabling geolocation tracking, the app ensures journalistic integrity and builds trust in the content being produced.

Using the GlobalM mobile app is straightforward, minimizing the technical burden on journalists in the field. To start broadcasting, the journalist simply taps the “Tap to start streaming” button within the app. Upon activation, the phone instantly sends its geolocation to the GlobalM orchestrator. The orchestrator then configures the live stream in real time, automatically pushing back the SRT URI settings to the phone. This streamlined process eliminates the need for manual setup, such as copying and pasting settings, allowing journalists to focus entirely on their reporting.

The app also integrates seamlessly with the broader GlobalM SDVN, leveraging its powerful orchestration capabilities to manage streams efficiently and ensure consistent quality. Once live, the system handles all aspects of the stream’s delivery, from encoding to transmission, ensuring a professional grade experience with minimal latency.

The GlobalM mobile app is engineered to deliver exceptional performance in demanding environments. It leverages hardware GPU encoding of the phone to achieve video bitrates of up to 20 Mbps in H.264, ensuring high-quality streams even in challenging network conditions. Compared to software-based encoding solutions found in most other live reporting apps, the GlobalM app’s hardware encoding significantly reduces power consumption, extending the phone’s battery life, a critical advantage for journalists covering prolonged events or operating in remote locations.

Latency is another area where the GlobalM mobile app excels. By using SRT technology, the app ensures extremely low latency streaming directly from the phone. This capability is crucial for live news coverage, where timely delivery of content can make the difference in breaking a story first.

Additionally, the app supports different IFB option such as return video and audio via an SRT return link. This feature enables journalists to receive real-time feedback from the newsroom, such as program feeds or editorial guidance, directly on their device. The return is displayed in a picture-in-picture (PIP) mode, ensuring that the journalist remains connected with the production team while staying focused on their surroundings. IFB as audio only routed directly from a live production gallery is also available in the GlobalM user interface.

In summary, the GlobalM mobile app is a transformative tool for mojo journalism, offering unparalleled ease of use, high performance, and critical features such as geolocation verification and automatic configuration. By removing technical barriers and enabling seamless collaboration between journalists and the newsroom, the app empowers newsrooms to deliver faster, more reliable, mobile journalism whilst allowing every type of reporter to have the app available without additional licensing costs.
