Seamless Switching and Redundancy
The encoder can either support SMPTE 2022/7 or can send to two SRT or RIST endpoints simultaneously. GlobalM also supports SRT with RTP, which some encoder / decoder manufacturers are utilising for SMPTE 2022/7.
Within the core of the network, two stream receivers are uses in different datacentre regions in an X/Y configuration. In the case of permanent services from London, the regions that can be used are London and Dublin. Each stream receiver pod is synchronised with the PTS/DTS clock allowing for seamless failover within the network in the case a loss of signal is detected on the active primary path.
Stream sender pods receive active transport streams from both stream receiver pods A and B. Stream sender pods C and D transmit the transport streams from two different datacentre regions in AWS. SMPTE 2022/7 in RTP is utilised for packet selection switching from either sender pods C and D delivering the transport stream to the decoder endpoint.
It is possible to use multiple encoders and decoders in a similar arrangement if the hardware is supporting transport stream synchronisation and SMPTE 2022/7.
GlobalM’s Advanced Network Exception Monitoring
All points in the transmission chain are monitored in real time detecting any packet loss or retransmission on any leg in the network. This combined with exception monitoring and alarms allows GlobalM to detect any problem instantly within the network as well as isolate the cause of the problem.

The above figures show GlobalM’s advanced monitoring, showing real-time statistics for each link in the network. Connected IP addresses, RTTs, link latencies, packet loss, packet retransmission, bandwidth etc, is expressed and constantly updated for real-time network monitoring. Alarms and statistics can be shared to third party systems allowing for large network operators to integrate GlobalM monitoring within a wider production workflow.
GlobalM’s architecture is designed with robust network monitoring and fault management, ensuring broadcasters maintain high-performance, low-latency video transmission with minimal downtime. Our advanced exception monitoring system provides real-time alerts, diagnostics, and automated failover, allowing users to detect, troubleshoot, and resolve issues instantly without disrupting live broadcasts.
With detailed alarms and live network statistics, GlobalM gives users full visibility into their transmission health. The system continuously scans for anomalies, automatically flagging and logging faults to provide actionable insights. If two encoders are connected to the same stream receiver, the network management interface instantly identifies the conflict, displaying IP addresses, timestamps, and connection details to help engineers locate and rectify the issue. This proactive monitoring ensures operational efficiency by reducing downtime and eliminating manual troubleshooting delays.
Additionally, GlobalM’s exception monitoring system detects and alerts users to:
- Excessive packet loss, helping to prevent degraded video quality and buffering issues.
- Incorrect passphrase entries, ensuring security protocols are properly enforced.
- Low SRT or RIST link latency, optimising transmission stability for high-quality delivery.
- Fluctuating network conditions, allowing automatic adjustment of streaming parameters.
- Unexpected connection failures, triggering failover mechanisms for seamless continuity.
Beyond simple error detection, GlobalM provides automated exception handling. When an issue is detected, the system can reroute traffic, adjust encoding parameters, or engage a backup stream, ensuring that transmission remains uninterrupted. Network operators are also notified with detailed logs and recommendations, enabling them to act swiftly when manual intervention is required.
By integrating automated alarms, real-time analytics, intelligent failover, and proactive fault detection, GlobalM empowers broadcasters with instant situational awareness. Whether managing mission-critical live feeds or complex multi-feed environments, our technology ensures uninterrupted, high-quality video delivery optimised for performance, security, and efficiency.
